A scalable and agile architecture: Modular applications co-built with internal teams, ready to integrate with tomorrow’s ERP system.
The challenge: scaling with business growth and financial complexity
For over 20 years, HomeServe has been committed to sustainably improving homes by simplifying repairs and enhancing energy efficiency. Today, the company operates in six European countries, with nearly 6,000 employees and 3.7 million customers.
Over the past decade, HomeServe France and Belgium have expanded significantly, evolving into a diversified group of over 30 legal entities across three lines of business. This growth brought increased complexity and new challenges for financial management.
The FP&A team is responsible for monthly closings, rolling reforecasts, and a lengthy annual budgeting process across all entities. The team is also expected to support increasingly sophisticated steering of emerging business models—each with its own level of maturity and specific requirements.
“Our EPM system was more than 15 years old, and Excel had become the central tool. Our analytical capabilities were no longer fit to support such a diverse set of business models, modernizing our performance management tool had become urgent.”
Virginie Pechalat, Director of Finance Transformation, HomeServe
Why Pigment: financial planning with agility, autonomy, and control
To keep pace with its business evolution, HomeServe sought a modern, cloud-native enterprise performance management (EPM) platform that could meet rising demands for financial data modeling, scenario planning, and cross-functional alignment. Pigment quickly emerged as the ideal choice.
“We needed a responsive platform that would allow finance teams to stay in control and remain autonomous when producing and adapting their analysis. [...] There’s also the ease with which business experts can adopt the solution, it allows our FP&A controllers to retain ownership and expertise in managing the tool themselves.”
Virginie Pechalat, Director of Finance Transformation, HomeServe
The project was co-built with integrator BearingPoint and internal business teams, following an agile approach with 6- to 8-week sprints.
“The challenge was to move from a system based on large, complex Excel files to a fully digital and integrated solution within tight deadlines. The methodology for each sprint included a scoping phase to refine business needs and define the required features, combined with Pigment’s flexibility, which accelerated delivery. This allowed us to gather live user feedback and ensure strong adoption throughout the implementation.”

Tangible, connected, and adopted use cases
Today, three main applications are live: FP&A, Workforce Planning, and IT & Data Spend Tracking, all interconnected through a centralized hub. This hub acts as the system’s backbone—defining shared model dimensions such as countries, entities, time periods, and versions. It centralizes data ingestion from various systems and handles user access rights and governance.
1. FP&A Application
This application structures all financial performance management activities for the HomeServe Energy Services business line, covering:
“We’ve moved from managing 25 subsidiaries in Excel to a single application shared with operational teams. Managers can now access their data directly and contribute to forecasts.”
Virginie Pechalat, Director of Finance Transformation, HomeServe
2. Workforce Planning Application
HomeServe adopted a Pigment template app to streamline HR planning. The app includes a pre-configured calculation engine for salaries, bonuses, and employee data, automatically feeding consolidated dashboards.
Customization involved:
Structuring the app based on HomeServe’s HR architecture
Renaming model dimensions
Adjusting metrics to align with HR controlling needs
“This allowed for a fast and precise rollout, with the level of granularity required by the HR controlling team.”
Virginie Pechalat, Director of Finance Transformation, HomeServe
3. IT & Data Spend Tracking Application
Designed to manage IT budget commitments, this application includes:
Request submission
Approval workflows
Budget monitoring
Spend visibility across projects and departments
“This use case fills a gap left by the absence of a suitable P2P (Procure-to-Pay) tool. We were able to digitize the process and make it easily accessible to teams.”
Virginie Pechalat, Director of Finance Transformation, HomeServe
Next step: full ERP integration and AI adoption
Pigment is currently used by around 50 users at HomeServe, but the ambition goes far beyond.
“We’re rolling out a new ERP that will serve as the foundation for both Finance and Operations. Once that’s in place, we’ll be able to scale Pigment further and redesign our performance management processes. That’s one of Pigment’s strengths, its flexibility makes it easy to deconstruct and rebuild.”
Virginie Pechalat, Director of Finance Transformation, HomeServe
“We’ve seen a demo of agents and generative AI, and we clearly see the potential. As soon as the timing is right, we plan to make full use of it.”
Virginie Pechalat, Director of Finance Transformation, HomeServe
A new momentum for Finance
For Virginie, Pigment is more than just a tool, it’s a catalyst for transformation.
"Today’s Finance teams need to adapt fast, simulate outcomes, and support strategic decisions. Pigment fully meets those needs."
She emphasizes the importance of a strong foundation:
“A rigorous scoping phase, a dedicated business team, and responsive sponsors - those are the three keys to success. That’s what allowed us to move fast, stay efficient, and build on solid ground.”
