For 25 years, Turnitin has partnered with educational institutions to promote honesty, consistency, and fairness across all subject areas and assessment types. Turnitin products are used by educational institutions and certification and licensing programs to uphold integrity and increase learning performance, and by students and professionals to do their best, original work.

At a glance

Turnitin implemented Pigment to overhaul its long-range planning, budgeting, risk forecasting and month-end reporting. With Pigment, they replaced error-prone spreadsheets with a scalable, collaborative platform that reduced manual work, boosted data accuracy, and gave its finance teams ownership over their numbers.

  • Replaced manual financial planning processes
A unified platform eliminated the need to consolidate data from 10+ different spreadsheets.
  • Faster month-end reporting
Now takes minutes instead of hours, with automated data pulls from NetSuite and instant stakeholder-ready outputs.
  • Improved data integrity and team collaboration
Removing manual consolidation efforts means finance business partners now input data directly in Pigment, leading to greater accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration.

Starting a clean sheet in Pigment

Turnitin’s financial planning previously relied on disconnected Excel and Google Sheets processes. The Performance Reporting team was tasked with manually consolidating data from approximately ten different sources, leading to inefficiencies, inaccuracies, and frustration.

Month-end reporting was also manual, involved downloading data from NetSuite, copying it into Excel, and repeating the process for 10 different reports to distribute to multiple stakeholders.

“We have linked all data up, automated in Pigment, and so within five minutes of month end close, we can have all that information done.”

Turnitin selected Pigment for its cost-effectiveness and scalability, enabling a smooth transition from spreadsheets to an automated, unified platform. Now, finance business partners directly input data into Pigment, instantly consolidating into live reports and plans.

“We've got to a stage where it's doing exactly what we were doing in Google Sheets and Excel , but much quicker, much more efficient, much more accurate.”

The result: Best in class planning

Pigment is now used for long-range planning, budgeting, risk forecasting, and month-end reporting. The switch to Pigment has empowered Turnitin’s teams with autonomy, accuracy, and agility in financial planning and analysis.

Teams no longer spend hours on data consolidation and manual reporting, and the risk of errors is significantly reduced.

Turnitin’s next steps

Daryl’s team is now going to focus on improving the insights they pull from data: current reporting is focused on high level numbers, but Pigment will enable them to drill down into them for more granularity. This will empower team members to investigate and better understand their data in order to uncover opportunities for improvement.

And there’s more. With plans to leverage AI and self-service analytics, Turnitin is paving the way for a more insightful and proactive FP&A function.

As Turnitin continues to strengthen its financial planning and analysis capabilities, the team is building a future-proof finance function—one that’s agile, insight-driven, and ready for whatever comes next. With Pigment as a central planning platform, the finance team is well-positioned to drive smarter decisions and long-term impact.
